diferencia" George Orwell
Siberia is substantially more Russian than European Russia in terms of its population. In the country as a whole, Russians* constitute 80 percent of the population; for Siberia, the figure is over 90 percent.
In 1998, "José" replaced "Michael" as the most popular name for newborn boys in both California and Texas."Mexicans are obsessed with history, Americans with the future."in May 2001, President Bush celebrated Mexico's Cinco de Mayo national holiday by inaugurating the practice of broadcasting the weekly presidential radio address to the American people in both English and Spanish. According to a recent study in the United Kingdom, the number of people worldwide who are learning English will peak at around 2 billion in the next 10-15 years. Contrary to popular belief, this is actually bad news for monolingual English speakers."As English becomes a mass commodity, it loses its uniqueness. The more educated and skilled people of all nationalities can operate in English, the less the advantage of being a native speaker, and especially a monolingual one. Speaking English as a mother tongue should be a reason to learn a second language, not an excuse to ignore the rest.
Cinco de Mayo came about as a major holliday because people of Mexican descent in the US did not see it making sense to celebrate national independece in a new land. However the celebration of a victory in the war against the French invasion and by the forces allied with Benito Juarez made sense. Cinco de Mayo is not even celebrated in most of Mexico. But I am happy that Americans celebrate it because the French invasion of Mexico was an excuse to eventually go up into the southern USA along with Britain in order to maintain the split between north and south (as the Civil War was in full swing in 1862). It is celebrated where I live, in Puebla, because that was where the battle was fought against incredible odds. The forts stand to this day on the east side of town.
They talk about NATO Gladio Operation, but the Soviet Union also supported socialist terrorism.
